Five Things to Avoid When Blogging

I've been an avid blogger for almost two years, and it's been a wild ride. I noticed some differences in the way people blog. You want to find a blogging style that is comfortable for you. There are also some things you want to avoid. Many new bloggers think that you can write a couple of articles, and then you're going to cash out. This couldn't be further from the truth. Blogging is a slow process, and many bloggers quit before they see any type of revenue. The best way to make it to the top is to avoid these five things.

Let's Get Personal

Blogging is an exciting experience, but don't forget people read them to get information. Some of the most successful blogs are tech reviews, how to make money online, and DIY home improvement. I know there are many kinds of blogs, but people go to blogs for advice. You shouldn't use a blog like a personal diary this will just make readers go elsewhere. If you're new to the blogging game, I would suggest that you start off with reviews. Just give an honest opinion about products that you own. Many first time bloggers make the mistake of telling people what they did over the weekend. Then they wonder why no one is looking at their blog. Well, it's simple people aren't interested in what you're doing. They mostly read blogs for advice, how to save money, and other factual information. If you can stick to giving people what they want, you're sure to go far in the blogging community.

Expecting Too Much Too Soon

This is the most common mistake that I see for first time bloggers. The only thing they want to know is how much money will they make. I always reply with the same answer, it depends on how much work you put into your blog. You won't be an overnight success, although this is possible, but it's not likely. I would suggest that you blog at least once a day. I've been slacking on my blogging, so I'm going to take it more seriously as well. Money will eventually come if you keep at it everyday. If you stop blogging your readers will vanish, so keep a good pace of at least once a day. It can literally take years before you see any money, but that's the sacrifice you have to make.

Unique Voice

Another thing you want to stay away from is sounding like other bloggers. This is a big no-no be yourself and don't steal topics and ideas. I see this all to often, I'll read a blog on one site, and another site has the same thing posted. Make blogs about topics that are familiar to you. This way you will have a unique voice, and you won't sound like everyone else. Some of the worst bloggers are ones that look at a successful blog, and they just rearrange the words to make a new article. Not only is this plagiarism, but you can be sued over things like this don't do it. If you want to write about a topic that is foreign to you, I would advise you do some research first.

Lying

This one is so obvious, but you would be surprised how many people break this one. If you're reviewing a product, and there was something that you didn't like mention it. Most bloggers try to keep their reviews too positive. Tell the truth because your credibility depends on it. It's okay to mention some negatives of the site or a product review. Just don't go overboard because you can be sued for slander. People also make blogs about rumors and other things that aren't factual. Check the net and make sure your information is factual, and the sources you get your information from are credible. There's nothing worse than a blog that is filled with lies and deceit. If you were in the readers shoes would you want false information?

Is That All?

The last common mistake bloggers make is short posts. I know writing is tough, but it gets easier if you stick with topics you know a lot about. You want your blog posts to be at the least 300 words. The more time someone spends on your website, the better chance they will click an ad. If people visit your site and they leave right away, you know that your content is too small. Take some time to really explain your topic, rather than just doing a drive-by post. The shortest blog post I've seen was about 20 words. I just thought to myself, you've got to be kidding me. Don't be shy, people are interested in what you have to say, so don't let them down.Your readers will thank you for it, trust me.
