How to Gain Authority in the Search Engines

Most people in SEO will tell you it's difficult to gain authority in the search engines. This is true because it takes a lot of hard work, and time spent promoting your website. I've been a blogger for a year now, and in the beginning I didn't have any authority with the search engines. You may ask what is authority, and is it really necessary for my website? Well, the answer is yes, you need authority in the search engine, and it will make or break your website.

Viewing your own site

The first thing with obtaining authority in the search engine is not to keep viewing your own website. I know this is a no-brainer, but people will often set up bots or other means of fake traffic to boost their numbers. It's better if your traffic is natural, and the less you view your own site the better. When I first started blogging I made this mistake of viewing my blog, but now I realized that just skewers the results. Now, I have authority in the search, and if you don't believe me just check it out for yourself.

Updating content

Updating your blog at least once a week helps with authority. You don't have to keep this schedule, but it would be better if you have new content constantly being churned out. Your blog or website is important, and people will start checking for it, so set a schedule and try to keep it going. I know that you might be busy with other things, but just make sure you find time for your website.

Social media equals success

Social media is the key to having authority in the search engines. Google definitely looks at social actions on your site, and it gives them an indication who should be on the front page of the results. Try not to encourage people to share your content, just let them do it on their own. Remember, you want your stats to look as natural as possible. There are all kinds of outlets to get your content out there, but just make sure not to bully people into sharing your content.

Longevity

New blogs and websites don't have as much authority as older sites. This is because Google trusts the older sites more because they have better stats. It's your job if you have a new website to establish longevity, and not just be in if for the short haul. Keep your site up to date, and make sure your website has a decent length of content. Longevity is something that can't be faked, so this is a real tell tell sign to Google that you're an established site, as opposed to a fly by night blog.
