Poetry: My Pride
Sometimes I hold my pride inside
In a way, I think I'm saving lives
Internally, it's built a divide
Between me, myself, and I
Why try to change this?
I'm not trying to be famous
Laid this verse down on a page, when
I'm stressed from life is what I'm saying
Speak when spoken to
I wonder who can do this?
What would life be like without my ego?
Paradise, sipping a screwdriver with my people
We're all equal in the eyes of the creator
Some were birthed sooner
And some a little later
If words could kill
Would you still want to talk to me?
Roll your eyes, flip your hair
And even scoff at me
Is it prophecy?
I can't come second to none
Sometimes the tongue is mightier than the gun
My pride...
